Health-conscious to be rewarded by Ceylinco

The Ceylinco Diabetes Centre is to encourage Sri Lankans to go for periodic screening as a means of preventing or managing the disease that now afflicts one in seven people on the island.

Effective immediately, the Centre will present every visitor who opts for any one of its screening packages with an attractive gift pack compiled especially with diabetics and the health conscious in mind.

Among the goodies in the pack will be items such as foot cream, non-sugar sweeteners, sugar-free snacks and beverages, and health food. The promotion will conclude at the end of October.

“This promotion is intended to reward those who have heeded medical advice and decided to get themselves screened either as a precautionary measure or as part of their diabetes management routine,” the Centre’s Senior Medical Officer Dr. Samanthi de Silva said.

In May this year, the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre promoted foot care, an essential part of good diabetes management, with a promotion that offered a free foot care package at its podiatry clinic to every visitor who obtained a diabetes package. Additionally, 10 Glucometers were presented to visitors selected through a draw.

“The Ceylinco Diabetes Centre has established itself as a centre of excellence in Sri Lanka, and we are continuing with our efforts to create awareness among the general public about the debilitating effects of diabetes and how it can be prevented,” Dr. de Silva added.

The Centre offers a range of investigation packages for individuals with a high risk of developing diabetes and routine checks for non-diabetics as well. These packages are recommended by specialist doctors based on the needs of each individual. The Ceylinco Diabetes Centre is the most advanced stand-alone private facility for screening and management of diabetes in Sri Lanka.

Established by Ceylinco Healthcare Services Limited (CHSL) in affiliation with the Washington Hospital Centre, the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre is a highly specialised out-patient clinic for screening, detection and management of diabetes and its complications.

The Centre also conducts clinics in Diabetology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Nephrology, Vascular Pathology, Podiatry, Dermatology and Nutrition. The Centre has its own specialised Wound Clinic and a Diabetes shop offering diabetics their needs including custom made footwear.

Ranbaxy to pump $ 500-600 mn for healthcare

Pharma major Ranbaxy Laboratories said that it would pump in $500-600 million in the healthcare sector in Punjab.

The company has also plans to produce 10 million tablets in its proposed SEZ in the state during the next two years.

“We have submitted our project proposal with the Punjab government. The project will involve an investment of USD 500-600 million in creating healthcare infrastructure such as hospitals and medical institutes in the state in the next few years,” Ranbaxy Laboratories CEO and Managing Director Malwinder Singh told reporters here today.

This project would also take on board partners from public sector, he added. Singh was here to attend a conference on pharmaceutical industry.

On its proposed 80-acre SEZ in Mohali, Singh said that the company would be producing 10 million tablets in the next two years in the SEZ. Ranbaxy had already announced to invest Rs 265 crore in this SEZ project. “We are open to involve other partners in this venture also,” he said.

Dismissing the claims that the prices of medicine have gone up in the country, Singh said that the rates of medicines in India are the lowest in the world.

“It is unfortunate to say that the prices of medicines are high in the country,” he said.
