Isipatana clinch under 16 12-a-side rugby title

RUGBY: Isipatana College clinched the Milo under 16 rugby championship in grand style by beating St' Anthony's Katugastota - by 22 points (1 goal 3 tries) to nil in the final played at the Nittawela International Grounds on 16th September.

The never say die Isipatana College played a terrific game in the final and overcame all the teams they confronted in fine style under rainy weather conditions. Upto now Isipatana had won all the competitions organised by the Western Province and the MILO trophies.

Incidentally the under 16 Pathanians clinched the title for the third successive year. The game of the day goes to D. S. Senanayaka (in Bowl segment). D.S. locked horns in the final of the bowl competition with the formidable Royal College, Panadura.

The Royal Panadura were leading 10 points to nil at half time, but the D.S. Lads put up a Gallant performance and planted two fine tries during four minutes of full time and scores were deadlocked.

The officials allowed three minutes extra time and the D.S. boys put up a stupendous performance during the second minute of extra time when a spectacular try was planted by D.S. winger Ravindu Lalantha, and it was a memorable day for the D.S.S. College, who won the bowl trophy from the jaws of defeat.

More than 250 participants from 25 schools took part in this grand final which was sponsored by Nestle Lanka Limited and organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA).

The Plate was won by Kingswood College who beat the up and coming Mahanama College, Colombo 5 points to nil while the Bowl was won by D. S. Senanayake, Colombo who beat Royal, Panadura 15 point to 10 in extra time.
