Fishing trawler sea wrecked in Mt. Lavinia

MT. LAVINIA: A fishing trawler was yesterday sea wrecked after colliding with a sea vessel near the Mt. Lavinia coast.

Three persons in the fishing trawler was rescued by crew members of the vessel. Later the trawler caught up in a huge wave was dashed onto the shore breaking in half.

According to reports the fishing trawler which tried to berth at the Beruwela fishery harbour was turned back by fishermen at the harbour.

It later set sail in the direction of Wedikanda. According to reports the fishing trawler was imported by a company named 'Marikone' one year ago and had been lying at the Colombo Dock yard before it was purchased by a marine company by the name of East Globe and put to sea.

The damage to the trawler is estimated at US dollars 70, 000.
