Grama Niladari gets 16 years RI

COLOMBO: A Grama Seva Niladari who was convicted for accepting
bribery was sentenced to 16 years rigorous imprisonment by Colombo High
Court Judge Thilak Thabrew.
D.B. Sudath Gnanasiri Darmadasa, Grama Niladari of Sirisangabo Grama
Niladari Division in Polonnaruwa was convicted for accepting Rs 5000 as
incentive to perform a duty in January, 1998.
Darmadasa had demanded the incentive from K.G. Rohan Wijenayake to
issue documents that needed to apply for registration of a business.
Darmadasa was convicted on four counts, demanding the incentive of Rs
5000 on January 6, 1998, and accepting Rs 3000 on the same day and
another sum of Rs 2000 on two other days.
The Court sentenced four years RI on each count. The Court also
imposed a fine of Rs 10000 and another four years RI in default.
The Court ordered the convict to pay Rs 5000 as a fine that he
solicited from Wijenayake and another six months RI in default. |
