Permanent appointments for acting sub post masters
COLOMBO: The Posts and Telecommunications Ministry has taken
immediate steps to grant permanent appointments to acting sub post
master, attached to sub post offices.
Under the Mahinda Chinthana Programme it is the Government’s
expectation to make permanent those temporary or casual basis in the
government service. Acting sub post masters who have worked for several
years will be made permanent, Posts and Telecommunication Minister,
Rauff Hakeen said.
Permanent appointment letters will be handed over to 200 acting sub
post masters by Hakeem at a ceremony at the postal complex today.
Out of the present total cadre of 3,409 sub post masters attached to
the Department of Posts, 949 have performed their duties in acting
capacity to date, and they will be granted permanent appointments
subject to their having fulfilled the basic qualifications.
Those who lack these qualifications, will be given the opportunity,
once they fulfil the required qualification in future.
These acting sub post masters have already completed from six months,
to 14 years in acting positions, under various constraints while serving
the people of the area satisfactorily, with a nominal payment, for the
upkeep of these sub post offices.
Since no additional financial commitment is involved in the payment
of salaries by this decision, the government will not be compelled to
allocate additional provision, where the salaries are concerned, Hakeem
said. |
