Chinese carriages to be added to train service soon

COLOMBO: The new railway carriages imported from China will be added
to the island’s train service within the next three weeks, the Transport
Ministry said.
A Ministry spokesman told the Daily News yesterday that the 25
carriages, the first shipment of the fleet of 100 carriages purchased
from China, will be attached to trains operating on the coastal and Main
lines.
According to the Ministry, the remaining 75 carriages are scheduled
to arrive in the country in the next three months in 25 fleet shipments.
Meanwhile, plans are also under way to purchase 15 new power sets
from China to strengthen the service. |
