Malaka to be produced in courts today

COLOMBO:Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate Miss Dharshika Wimalasiri
yesterday ordered the Welikada Remand Prison Authorities to produce
Malaka Manoj Silva, the suspect in the assault on Accountant Chaminda
Senasinghe, in court today.
Earlier the Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge
Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena remanded Malaka Manoj Silva, son of
Minister Mervyn Silva, till yesterday.
President’s Counsel Denzil Gunaratne, senior counsel for the suspect,
moving for bail said according to the statements recorded by the police
on several persons including the foreign woman, who was at the scene at
the time of the incident, that the suspect had not used any firearms
during the incident and not assaulted any person at the night club.
The suspect also had received several injuries during the incident
and had complained to the Bambalapitiya police.
President’s Counsel M.L.M. Ameen, senior counsel for accountant
Senasinghe, objected to the suspect being released on bail and said the
conduct of the police investigators and the prison authorities were very
unsatisfactory.
After lengthy submissions by the Bambalapitiya police, Senior Defence
Counsel and Mr. Ameen, the Magistrate directed the Prisons authorities
to produce the suspect in court today. |
