CH-Police clash in curtain-raiser of President’s Trophy

RUGBY: Eight time winners of the President’s Trophy, CH and FC will confront the Sri Lanka Police on September 14 in the curtain-raiser of the President’s Trophy Knock-out Tournament which will be worked off from September 14 to 23, 2007 at Longden Place. The tournament will be sponsored by Chevron Lubricants Lanka Limited.

Undisputed champions of 2007, Kandy Sports Club which will go all out to clinch the Rugby Triple by winning the President’s Trophy will take on Dimbula in the second quarter-final at Nittawela on September 15 while on the same day runners-up of the Caltex ‘A’ Division League and Clifford Cup CR and FC will confront Sri Lanka Army at Longden Place in the third quarter-final while on September 16 Havelocks will meet Air Force in the fourth quarter-final at Longden Place.

The semi-finals will be worked off on September 19 and 20 at Longden Place while the final will be worked off on September 23 at the same venue. The tournament has been revived after nine years with CR having won the trophy in 1998 by beating Kandy SC by 30-26 in the final to snatch back the trophy from Kandy which won the trophy for three successive years from 1995 to 1997.

The schedule:

Quarter-finals

(a) CH and FC vs Police on September 14 at Longden Place.

(b) Kandy SC vs Dimbula on September 15 at Nittawela.

(c) CR and FC vs Army on September 15 at Longden Place.

(d) Havelocks vs Air Force on September 16 at Longden Place.

Semi-finals

(e) Winners of (a) vs winners of (b) at Longden Place on September 19.

(f) Winners of (c) vs winners of (d) at Longden Place on September 20.

Final

Winners of (e) vs winners of (f) at Longden Place on September 23.
