Over to you Traffic Police

The Traffic Police of Kelaniya Police division has undertaken an extremely tedious exercise apparently every day of the week, morning and evening by facilitating the motorists travelling between Kiribathgoda and Colombo by arranging extra lanes of traffic for a smooth flow of vehicles.

The untiring efforts of the police personnel of the Kelaniya Traffic Police should be recognised and appreciated as they control the traffic in an excellent manner.

Towards improving this, if the authorities could construct an underground or overhead passage for university students near Kelaniya University and a flyover at the Kelaniya railway crossing, traffic will ease further.

People’s Voice news stirs hornest’s nest

My article in your newspaper of August 20 captioned ‘Over to you Chairman Water Board’ promptly fetched to my dwelling two strange men.

Describing themselves as Water Board men commenced questioning me to ascertain whether I wrote to the press about their Water Board.

Besides being flabbergasted, it surprised me to learn as from the source the strangers obtained my home address.

They did not produce their identity cards to prove they are from the Water Board.

‘Discretion being the better part of valour’ in this era of abduction and crime, judiciously I avoided answers to impertinent questions.

Thus, giving the men ‘food for thought’ the writer to the press is unknown to my mind.

As they left my residence; ‘without the batting of an eye-lid’, I promptly phoned the Water Board who knew nothing of the purpose of the strangers visit to me.

Next morning I phoned the Water Board again. I learnt that the two men were employees of the Water Board.

To clear any misgiving I voluntarily issued the Water Board a letter dated 22.08.07.

The letter is self-explanatory admitting that I am the author of the letter to the press.

Mr. Mendis whom I now know as the Area Engineer, Water Board, explained that WB authorities rectified the ‘air problem’ in the pipe lines as now there is a very regular water supply throughout the day/night. Publicity given to my article in ‘People’s Voice’ has disturbed a hornest’s nest giving relief to water users in the areas situated on hill-tops especially.

A big bunch of perfumed flowers to ‘People’s voice’.
