Sri Lanka lose to Trinidad 28/70

NETBALL: Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating 28-70 defeat at the
hands of Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match of the Asian netball
championships worked off at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore
yesterday.
Trinidad and Tobago who are placed tenth in the World Rankings
completely dominated the game and piled up the points almost at a will.
They took a commanding 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and
went on to lead 34-10 and 53-19 in the second and third quarter
respectively.
Tharjani Sivalingam collected 22 goals from 22 attempts while
Shashika Samarasinghe contributed eight goals from 13 attempts. Earlier
Singapore defeated Canada 44-33 in the curtain raiser match of the
tournament.
Sri Lanka’s second match of the tournament will be on Wednesday
against Canada.
They will confront the hosts Singapore in their third match of the
tournament on Friday. |
