John Tarbat meet begins today

ATHLETICS: The 77th annual senior national athletic championships for the Sir John Tarbat Shield conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Limited will commence today at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Over two thousand athletes (boys and girls) will be vying for honours in this three day meet in three age groups namely under 16, 18 and 20.

The events that will be worked off are the boys and girls 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 5000 m, 4X100 m relay, 4X400 m relay, 110 m hurdles, 400 m hurdles, 3000 m steeple chase, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, discuss throw, shot putt and javelin throw.

In addition there will be a walking race for boys and girls in the under 20 age category.
