WPC to propose election on ward basis

COLOMBO: Western Provincial Council’s Chief Government Whip Sisira Jayakody will table a proposal to hold the forthcoming Local Government Election on ward basis when the Council meets today.

The present Proportional Representative system has caused many problems to the country. There is no Member responsible for an electorate under this system.

A colossal sum of money is wasted on elections held on this system and difficulties created by the system to prevent suitable people entering governing bodies to represent the people.
