Lankan netballers leave for Singapore

NETBALL: The twelve member Sri Lanka netball team led by Gayathri
Lankatilleke left the Island yesterday to participate in the Asian
senior netball championships which will be staged from September 3 to 8
in Singapore.
All top Asian teams will be vying for honours in this annual event
which will be conducted by the Asian Netball Federation. The teams
competing are Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, North Ireland, Malaysia
and Sri Lanka.
Shashika Samarasinghe is the vice captain of the team and the other
senior players in the squad are Damayanthi Jayatilleke, Dhammika
Malkanthi, Anjana Kulari and Sanduni Bollegala.
In addition Sri Lanka will also have the services of Tharjani
Sivalingam who is considered as the tallest netball player in Asia. Gaya
Jayaweera, C. Presila, Kumarani de Silva and Chapa Gallappathy are the
new players in the Sri Lanka squad.
