Concessions for local industries, says Welgama
HORANA: Several concessions will be provided to uplift local
industries, Industrial Development and Ranaviru Welfare Minister Kumara
Welgama said.
Speaking after inspecting the Sanasuma Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Company in
Poruwadanda, Horana which recycles waste matter, the Minister said all
provincial institutions have a massive challenge regarding waste
management.
“The garbage problem has exceeded all other problems today. Kalutara
district collects about 4,000 tons of waste a day. We have to find
solutions to this problem,” Welgama said.
“A ton of waste including polythene, plastic and batteries etc.
accumulated in factories are recycled in this factory. Polythene seeds
required to manufacture polythene are manufactured at Sanasuma Lanka (Pvt)
Ltd. A kilo of polythene manufactured abroad is Rs. 250. This factory
provides a kilo of polythene at Rs. 100.”
The Minister said during the inspection of this factory, he became
aware that people recruited here do not need educational qualifications.
“There is also no age limit and even the disabled can work here. When
recruiting to other institutions there is an age limit and the disabled
are not taken. As a result, this factory stands above the others,” he
said.
“We take all the steps to uplift local industries. We provide tax
concessions to industrialists to get down machinery and equipment
relevant to the industry,” Welgama said.
Horana Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Yasapala Koralage also participated.
