Flower for each Province

COLOMBO: The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry launched a programme yesterday to dedicate a flower to each Province to protect Sri Lanka’s endangered plants.

The ceremony to dedicate flowers was held yesterday under Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka’s patronage at his Ministry.

The following are the flowers dedicated to each Province. North Central Province - Ehela, Sabaragamuwa - Vesak Orchid, Western - White Lotus, Eastern - (proposed) Goda Manel, Central - Maharatmal, Northern - (proposed 1) Wal Pichcha, (proposed 2) - Wishnu Kranthi, Southern - Heenbowitiya, Uva - Guruluraja and North Western - Etteriya.

Most of these flowers are endemic to the specific region and are culturally and scientifically significant.
