Matara best tea smallholder selection

THE QUALITY Management Project for issuing standard certificates for Ceylon Tea is now being successfully implementing in the Matara District.

Five tea factories in the Matara District had received One Star Award each for their best performance and this project is implemented under five stages.

Lumbini in Deniyaya, Uruwela, Gunawardana, Nandana in Akuressa and Lions are the five tea factories received the ‘one star’ certificate and awards under this project and five more qualified tea factories are in the waiting list to receive awards.

Thirty two out of 89 tea factories in the Matara district are now being developed under this project and one day workshop for the tea factory owners in the district are enlisted under the project.

The workshop for this year will be conducted on 30th at the Reef Garden Hotel Polhena in Matara, The Asst. Tea Commissioner of Matara, K.H.S. Kumara Kithsiri said.
