Moves to transport produce from Jaffna to South

Jaffna: Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda, and Chairman of Development Committee of Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts has taken steps to provide with marketing facilities to the producers of Jaffna to market their products in the South at minimum cost.

Given the backdrop in the Jaffna Peninsula, the Minister on his visit to the peninsula experienced the exorbitant transport cost to the South in moving their products, causing a severe dent in their earnings, consequently, the Minister has taken steps to provide transport facilities to the producers.

Accordingly, the Minister is holding discussions with these concerned, to explore the possibility of utilising the ships, that fetch in essential food items into the peninsula.
