Proposal to pay food supplier’s bills defeated at CMC

COLOMBO: The proposal moved to pay Rs.2.1 million to the food suppliers who have submitted bills in connection with supplying food to the flood victims was defeated at the CMC monthly meeting yesterday.

The suppliers have provided cooked food parcels to the flood victims in the Colombo Municipality area from May 3 to 05.

The meeting was presided by Mayor Imythias Mohamed who faced a no confidence motion at the previous council meeting and defeated. The decision to pay this bill has been taken by the Distress Committee chaired by Deputy Mayor A.K.M.S. Rajendran.

Meanwhile Opposition Leader Vasudewa Nanayakkara asked for a division to the Council’s proposal to release CMC owned two storied “Dabare” building opposite the Narahenpita Railway Station to the Defence Ministry.

But the CMC proposal was passed with a majority votes. Vasudewa Nanayakkara and the JVP voted against the proposal.
