MASKELIYA: “I am committed to render my services to all communities
in Nuwara Eliya which is a multi-racial district. So the funds allocated
to me from the Decentralised Budget (DCB) should be spent equally on
Estates and villages in the district, said Arumugam Thondaman, Minister
of Youth Empowerment, Socio and Economical Development and President of
Ceylon Workers’ Congress
The Minister was speaking at the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha
prize-giving ceremony at D. K. W. Cultural Hall, Hatton.
“The most downtrodden people must be uplifted and the areas in the
district should be developed,”
He said: “I was told that there were many shortcomings in all
villages and Estates. I am bound to remedy them soon. There should also
be integration between estates and villages.
There is a conflict on and let it be settled by the Government. But,
I shall utilise my services for the progress of people of Nuwara Eliya
district and to elevate the district to a higher level. My funds have
been spent equally on estates and villages for all communities.
Among us there was no difference in serving the people.
The Minister said that Estate and village youths must be brought to a
central place in the Nuwara Eliya district to understand each other for
their future progress. I wish to point out some mistakes by officials of
Ambegamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha. I am a Minister and the invitation
mentioned nothing about the President and his Cabinet.
