Chamara - Thamira win triple crowns as SLT dominates

BADMINTON: Chamara Perera and Thamira Edirisinghe of Sri Lanka
Telecom showed their brilliance when both of them emerged victorious in
all three events they played as SLT shuttlers dominated the novices
badminton tournament concluded at the S. Thomas’ College indoor stadium
last Friday. The tournament was organised by the National Services
Badminton Association.
Chamara won his men’s single, doubles and the mixed doubles. In the
men’s single, he overcame Rangana Thushara (Ceylon Electricity Board).
Together with Pandula Godakanda he beat Manju Amarasinghe and Ruwindu of
Peoples Bank.
He teamed up with the women’s champion Thamira Edirisinghe to rout
A.F. Ameen and T.K.M. Chandrawathi (Sri Lanka Transport Board) in the
mixed doubles.
Thamira overcame her team mate Uresha Soysa in the women’s single and
later got together to trounce Renuka Kuruppu (National Savings Bank) and
K.A. Deepika (Sri Lanka Ports Authority) in the women’s double.
Sri Lanka Telecom took away all the championships except the two
veterans’ but were the runners up in two events.
In the men’s veterans single, A.R.F. Ameen (S.L.T.B.) routed J.H.
Dorambawila (N.S.B.) while H.S.P. Fernando (C.E.B.) overcame Deepa
