Ratnam, Negombo YSC make a strong comeback

SOCCER: Ratnam Sports Club the defending champions of the Kit Premier League who failed to make an impact last weekend against Air Force came up with a brilliant performance yesterday when they completely outclassed Jupiters SC four goals to one at Kadolkele ground, Negombo.

Jupiters SC who stunned their home town rivals Negombo Youth in their opening game at the same venue could not make the strong Ratnam SC outfit yesterday.

Though Jupiters players were hoping to display top class soccer to their supporters did so for forty minutes. It was E. B. Channa who made the initial breakthrough for Ratnam 1-0. The lemons were taken at this stage.

Soon after the turn around, last years best soccerite in the Kit Premier League championship Kasun Jayasuriya extended the lead to two. Jupiter soccerites fought hard to reduce the lead and was successful 2-1.

Once again it was Channa who scored in the 65th minute and ten minutes later Kasun struck again to put his side to a comfortable lead 4-1.

There was no scoring during the last fifteen minutes and Ratnam SC sealed victory in this game to take a step forward. But referee had pull out the red card on Rawmy Mohideen (Ratnam) and M. Azwer (Jupiters) as they took to rough play.

Negombo YSC win

In another game played at Bogambara stadium saw Negombo Youth Sports Club down Kandy York SC three goals to nil. Kandy soccerites playing on their home ground held on the strong Negombo team to a scoreless half time.

The second session took a different turn with Negombo Youth going all out to score at any cost as they need a victory here to erase their last week’s bad loss to Jupiters SC.

Chathura Guneratne was the player who put Negombo in front with two goals during this session.

Nimal Anthony Fernando who has been a big asset to his club with a number of goals last season specially at crucial moments came up with another fine performance to add another goal to make it 3-0, and the game ended at this point.
