Over to you Mayor CMC

I sent a registered letter on April 8, to the Mayor of Colombo with a copy to the Opposition Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara, requesting to build a ‘bollard’ on the centre of the Mahavidyala Mw. Colombo 13, as drivers overtake their vehicles by competing with one another by which an accident may claim the life of some small children who are attending the three schools in the vicinity, together with the suggestion, hoping the CMC to take immediate action as the delay would make us feel sad, if something fatal occurs.

I also measured the road near Salaka where such a ‘bollard’ has been built on a road which is a few feet smaller than M’Vidyala Mw, not to allow the CMC to make a lame excuse and get rid of my request.

Nanayakkara sent me a copy of a letter he had addressed to the Traffic Committee and I also received a letter from the CMC that the matter has been forward to the Standing Committee of the Traffic Department for necessary action.

It seems the Committee could not ‘sit’ as yet though it is nearing the third month. It appears what was requested to be urgently attended had been purposely neglected until a life is lost and a committee appointed (to satisfy the people concerned) to probe the delay.

I also sent a registered letter on April 8, addressed to the CMC electrical engineer to repair a street lamp which stands in an important place at M’vidyala Mw (Opposite shop No. 240) and also to trim the branches of few trees which appears ‘weak, hanging and protruding more to the road’ near the two schools.

On May 7 a container hit against one such branch and it crashed injuring the head of a pedestrian. Fortunately, she escaped with minor injuries on her head and was treated in a medical centre opposite the school.
