New media centre for Sara Stadium
CRICKET: The Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club yesterday unveiled
a new state-of-the-art Media Centre ahead of the first one-day
international between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the P. Saravanamuttu
Stadium.
The Media Centre at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium came in for severe
criticism following a number of shortcomings during the second Test
match between the two teams played two week’s ago.
But the Tamil Union Club were able to perform a near miracle in less
than two weeks as they upgraded the Media Centre while putting up
permanent tiers, efficient work stations, glass panelling and fully
air-conditioned making it the best in the country.
In addition the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium will be the only Wi-Fi
enabled Media Centre in Sri Lanka. The development work was originally
planned for the latter part of the year but it was fast tracked
especially for yesterday’s one-day international.
The P. Saravanamuttu Stadium was the historic venue which hosted the
inaugural Test match against England in 1982.
