the Acting Minister of Environment and Natural Resources by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa. Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka is on an official visit abroad.

Authorities to focus on transport sector
COLOMBO: Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma will meet provincial
Chief Ministers tomorrow to discuss the future measures to be taken
regarding the country’s transport sector.
At the discussion at 3.30 pm, a range of issues affecting transport
including the improvement of the private bus service, providing a
quality service to commuters and ensuring discipline in the private bus
industry will be taken up.
Chairpersons of Provincial Transport Authorities, Transport Ministry
officials and members of the National Transport Commission will also
participate.

Islamic Women’s Day
COLOMBO: The Islamic Women’s Day is commemorated annually on the
birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatima Zahra.
The Az Zahra Association has organised a special meeting tomorrow at
the Jayawardene Hall, Colombo at 3 p.m. to mark this event.
Although well known as the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad and
the wife of Imam Ali, she was an illustrious personality in her own
right. Fatima Zahra was the mother of four, Imam Hassan, Imam Hussain,
Hazrat Zainab and Hazrat Ummu Khulthum, each one of whom turned out
outstanding in his and her own right.

Needs financial assistance
Weniwelara: Kumarie, 31-year-old mother of a baby child, 4242,
Weniwelara, Sooriyawewa is suffering from acute kidney failure. Dr. C.
A. Herath of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital advised her to undergo
a kidney transplant.
She is on regular twice weekly haemodialysis at present which should
be continued until she will have a kidney transplant if her life is to
be saved. Twice weekly acetate base haemodialysis at Sri Jayewardenepura
General Hospital cost about Rs. 24,000 per month.
She appeals to kind donors for whatever financial assistance possible
to meet her expenses by sending them to Account No. 6733333 at the Bank
of Ceylon Sri Jayewardenepura Branch.
Donation of a kidney is highly honoured (Blood Group AB Positive).

Festival of colours at Crescat Boulevard
COLOMBO: “Festival of Colours” 2007 will be held at the Crescat
Boulevard shopping mall from July 20 to 28. “The concept of this
promotion is quite simple.
We have selected eight prominent colours with appropriate theme lines
attached to each colour and if you happen to be wearing one of these
