World Habitat Day in Kandy

COLOMBO: An integrated development programme will be implemented in Kandy to mark World Habitat Day 2007 scheduled which falls on October 1.

This decision was taken, recently at the meeting held at the office of the Ministry of Housing and Common Amenities with the participation of Minister of Housing and Common Amenities Ferial Ashraff and North Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake.

Under the theme “Safe City is a Just City”, measures will be taken reduce the crime rate in the city, protect the city from natural and human disasters and protect the rights of the people living in the cities and suburbs of Kandy.

Better housing and infrastructure facilities including health and sanitary services will also be provided to estate workers.

The programmes to be implemented in Kandy during next two months to mark World Habitat Day will be identified at a meeting to be held on July 27.
