Eleven LTTEers killed, eight in uncleared areas

VANNI: Eleven LTTE cadres were killed and six others injured in two separate incidents in Mankulam and Vavuniya yesterday.

According to Wanni sources, a vehicle carrying a group of Tiger cadres hit a claymore mine, killing eight LTTE cadres in the explosion.The incident occurred in an uncleared area in Mankulam.

In a separate incident, Security Forces successfully repulsed an LTTE artillery attack killing three Tiger cadres and injuring six others when tiger cadres attempted to lay claymore mines at the Forward Defence Line (FDL) in Villathikulam in Vavuniya yesterday.

The Tiger cadres initially fired at troops when they attempted to infiltrate the Villathikulam FDL. “Three LTTE bodies were observed beyond the FDL”, the sources added. Eleven sea Tiger cadres were killed on Saturday in the sea off Pulmoddai. The death toll was confirmed by LTTE communications intercepts.
