Crash programme to conserve 10,000 artifacts

COLOMBO: The Archaeological Department will initiate a project on “Uruma Aruna” to conserve 10,000 monuments of archaeological interest.

This project will be launched under five stages within five years on the instruction of National heritage Ministry.

The priority list for the conservation will be prepared under the project and it has already implemented at regional level.

The research report for the conservation of the 441 artifacts in 250 locations of the Western Province and 1,851 monuments in 451 locations of the Central Province has already been completed.

The conservation process will begin in the first quarter of year 2008.
