Accused sentenced to 10 years RI for preparing forged documents

COLOMBO: Colombo High Court Judge Malani Abeywardana Ranathunga yesterday sentenced a person who was indicted with preparing forge documents to ten years Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a Rs. one million fine.

The High Court convicted Thyagarajah Jegadeeswaran on all three counts he was indicted with.

According to the first charge he had misused Rs. 2 million given by Subramanium Maheshwaran of Point Pedro to buy motor spare parts for his shop at Point Pedro.

The accused had prepared a forged cheque and produced it to a bank. The Court imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 for the first count and another one year RI in default. The Court also imposed Rs. 500,000 on second and third count and another five years RI in default. DSG Thureirajah appeared for the Prosecution.
