Myanmar donates two tuskers to Sri Dalada Maligawa

COLOMBO:The Myanmar Government has decided to donate two tuskers to the Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa which has experienced a shortage of elephants to participate in its religious and cultural events in recent times.

This follows discussions the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara had with Myanmar Prime Minister during his visit to Myanmar on the invitation of the Myanmar Government recently.

A press release by the Sri Dalada Maligawa media unit said the two tuskers aged 20 years and 27 years and named ‘Kaimanthong’ and ‘Moyathaka’ by the Myanmar Government will be brought to Colombo by ship which will arrive in the Colombo Port on July 12 at 9 a.m

They will be officially handed over to Maligawa authorities in Kandy by the Myanmar Prime Minister when he visits Kandy on August 28 to witness the final Randoli Maha Perahera of the Kandy Esala Pageant.

The release said this gift will help increase the Sri Dalada Maligawa’s Elephant herd to 16.
