Joseph Vaz and Musaeus overall champions

John Tarbet athletic meet

ATHLETICS: The John Tarbet Trophy schools athletic championships concluded on Thursday at the Public Esplanade Anuradhapura. Boys and girls numbering over 3,800 from 310 schools for all parts of the country took part in different age categories.

The championships was organised by the Education Department and was sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.

The all island girls championship was won by Musaeus Girls College, Colombo in Western Province with 68 points. Second and the third places wents to Holy Family Convent and Ladies College, Colombo respectively also from Western Province.

Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa in North Western Province succeeded in winning the all island Boys Championship by scoring 69 points while St. Joseph’s College in Western Province, Colombo were the runners-up with 63 points to its credit. Royal College, Colombo finished in third place.

Ashan Fernando (Joseph Vaz Vidyalaya, Wennappuwa, North Western Province) 5.99 m

Aushadi Seneviratne (Colombo Ladies College, Western Province) 63.8 seconds.

Thamara Padmini Challenge Trophy Mini Marathon

Dishna Kumari Ekanayake, Weera Keppetipola MV, Akuramboda, Central Province.

K.A. Karunaratne Challenge Trophy Mini Marathon event

H.M. Sudesh Priyantha, Yapahuwa MMV, North Western Province.

The Best Junior Girls Athlete - 2007

Nethmi de Silva (under 14) Musaeus College, Colombo, Western Province, 200 metres 27.7 seconds.

The Best Junior Boys Athlete - 2007

Ashan Fernando, Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, High Jump - 5.99 metres.
