Handicraft exhibition by National Crafts Council, a success
COLOMBO: A handicrafts exhibition and sale organised by the National
Crafts Council (NCC) under its marketing development programme to
promote markets for handicraftsmen and improve their lifestyles proved a
success.
A NCC communique said the four day exhibition and sale opened by
Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasooriya on the invitation of Rural
Industries and Self-Employment Promotion Minister S.B. Nawinna drew
crowds on all days.
Goods displayed at most stalls were sold out within the first few
days with most stall holders unable to cope with the unexpected demand.
Stall holders thanked the NCC for taking timely action to revive the
handicrafts sector by organising an event of this nature which carried
the handicrafts menage once again to the people.
NCC’s Southern Province Assistant Director K.M.G. Kamal and
Development Assistant W.K.N. Shyamalie rendered a dedicated service to
make the event a success.
The opening ceremony was attended by Southern Province Industrial
Development Ministry Secretary K.H.A. Keerthiratne, NCC Chairman Buddhi
Keerthisena, NCC Director Thilaka Jayasundara and Deputy Director
(Development) Indrani Abeysinghe.
