EXHIBITION: An exhibition by students of Willesden College
International, Battaramulla to mark its 15th

was held at the school recently. Over 500 exhibits were demonstrated at
the exhibition.
One of the most attractive items was the âProcartâ made by
14-year-old student Lankana Wickramasinghe Jayasekera.
the Procart which works on kerosene oil was produced by using waste
material such as old tyres, pipes, plastic items, wires and metal
sheets.
Lankana said the procart was a dream come true.
âToday it became true. I am very happy. I had to spend only a small
amount. But today the value of it is very high.
I can drive it at a speed of 80 kilometres per hourâ, he said.
Divisional Director of Education, Kaduwela, Amarasena Amarathunga opened
the exhibition together with Managing Directress Willesden College
International A.S. Wijethunge, Principal P. Tennakoon and Registrar
Saman Rathnathilake.
They praised the studentsâ talents.
Phenomenal Dusk 2007: A Blend of Talent with Creation
BAND: The Western Cadet Band of Mahanama College in
collaboration with the Prefectsâ Guild and Old Boys
The Senior Western Band of Mahanama College displaying their

Association organised an Inter School Brass Band Show to mark
the 34th Anniversary of Mahanama College Western Cadet Band at the BMICH
under the theme âThe Blend of Talent with Creationâ.
All three bands of the school, the Senior Western Band, the Junior
Western Band and the Primary Western Band displayed their talents with
the participation of other leading schools while the collegeâs Eastern
Dancing troupe also performed.
This event was made brighter with the participation of bands of
Ananda College, D. S. Senanayaka College, Isipathana College, St.
Josephâs College, Royal College, Anula Vidyalaya, Devi Balika Vidyalaya,
Lindsay Girlsâ School, Musaeus College, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya,
Visakha Vidyalaya, Vihara Maha Devi Girls School, Kiribathgoda and
Bishopâs College.
Apart from the performing bands, a group of artistes who are popular
Mahanamians performed including singers Dharshana Pramod, Mistry and
side-effects. The event was made colourful by dances performed by
Chandana

The showâs objective was to provide an opportunity for both
Mahanamians and students from other schools to show their hidden
talents. The chief guest was Susara Dinal de Silva, Channel Manager of
Sirasa TV, an old boy of Mahanama College.
Message from the Band Leaders
Band leaders Chamodh Malshan and Dakshina Ranasinghe in a message
said:
âIt is with great honour and privilege that we send this message when
we hold the âPhenomenal Dusk 2007â. This is the untiring efforts
displayed by all our band members and others who were concerned with the
success of task.
We would not have seen the dawn of âPhenomenal Dusk 2007â if not the
guidance of our principal W. H.

We dreamed to be band members of the school cadet band and we never
dreamed to be a band sergeant of this band.
We are very proud to be the 27th (Chamodh) and 28th (Dakshina) band
leaders in celebrating such a great event.â
Kuliyapitiya students shine at writing skills

TALENTED: Nine students of Grade 11 of Saranath M.V. of
Kuliyaptiya have displayed a great deal of skills in
English writing.
The nine students have been selected through an examination held by
the British commonwealth to test the skills of students who follow
studies in the English medium in 2007.
Of the Sri Lankan students, 1,000 had been selected first and of them
50 have passed with flying colours among the 50 are nine students from
Saranath M.V. Kuliyapitiya.
An English book titled First Flight was written and published by the
Commonwealth which contains the creative work of those selected students
such as letters, poems, stories etc.
This book was delivered among the school. The British common wealth
has selected the following students from the left.
Anushka Udeshine, Deepthi Niroshini, Kanchana Sandamali, Madushika
Chandrasena, Ayesha Maduwanthi, Gayara Demini Fanando, Chathurika
Ayanthi, Sathya Tennakoon and Dasuni Chamodika. |
