Thomians fight back to beat Joes 26-17

RUGBY: S. Thomas’ College mount Lavinia produced a superb second half rally to beat St. Joseph’s College by 26 points to 17 points in their annual inter school rugby encounter worked off at Havelock Park yesterday.

The Thomians who were trailing 9-10 at half time came back strongly to turn the game in their favour while collecting their points from two goals and four penalties. St. Joseph’s College responded with two goals and four penalties.

The Josephians took the initiative with tries from Chirantha Perera and Lahiru Fernando with Samitha Maduranga converting both tries and also putting over a good penalty.

However the Thomians staged a fine comeback with number eight Hasindu Perera and centre three quarter Niluka Wickrematilleke scoring a try each while winger Sadera Dharmadasa converted both tries. In addition full back Manjith Thammangama had a good game where he contributed a total of 12 points through four penalties.
