First phase ends successfully
A.M.R.C. Formula L.G.B. Championship in India:
RACING: A Motor Racing Championship, which could be considered as a
land mark in the history of Motor Racing Sports of Sri Lanka, commenced
on last June 17th in India, after several decades. It was organized by
the Asian Motor Racing Club.
The speciality of this championship was, that it was only Sri Lankan
Formula Motor Racing Drivers who participated in India, which was
conducted according to International Rules, under the supervision of
International Judges.
This championship was named as A.M.R.C. Formula L.G.B. Championship.
The competition held on June 17th, was the first round of the first
phase of the championship, which consist of several phases.
The first, second and third places of the opening event of the first
phase of the championship were won by S.A. Harsha, Nadeera Jinasena and
M. Amadoru respectively. In the second event which was held
subsequently, the first, second and third places were also won by M.
Amadoru, Nadeera Jinasena and S.A. Harsha respectively.
Accordingly S.A. Harsha and M. Amadoru, hold the first place of the
first phase of A.M.R.C. Formula L.G.B. championship jointly with a score
of 17 points each, while Nadeera Jinasena, holds the second place with a
score of 16 points.
Thus ended the first phase of A.M.R.C. Formulla L.G.B. Championship
and trophies were awarded to the winners in the evening after the
championship. Several special invitees, who are connected to the Formula
Motor Racing in India, including Narayan Katheyan, a leading Formula One
Driver of India, were present at the occasion.
After the presentation of trophies, Narayan Katheyan, announced that
the stand of Motor Racing in Sri Lanka is of a high standard and that he
was highly impressed by the skills displayed by the Sri Lanka
competitors.
After the presentation of Trophies, the Asian Motor Racing Club, the
organizers of this championship, agreed top sponsor 50% of the
travelling expenses to be incurred by S.A. Harsha and M.Amadoru, who
obtained 17 points each at the first phase of the championship to visit
to India to participate in the second phase and to sponsor 25% of the
travelling expenses to be incurred by Nadeera Jinasena.
Parallel to the above event, the first phase of another championship,
called Formula Rolon, was also held on June 17th, in Coimbatore with the
participation of competitors from the Asian Region.
Although Dinesh Jayawardena, Romanie de Silva, Rohan de Silva and
Riyaz Faruk were scheduled to represent Sri Lanka in this championship,
due to some defects in vehicles Rohan de Silva and Riyaz Faruk did not
participate in the event.
Dinesh Jaywardene and Romani de Silva, who participated, obtained the
6th and 8th places respectively.
Parallely a training and practice session for Sri Lankan competitors
were also conducted with the participation of several Indian
International Racing Drivers and Trainers.
Sri Lanka competitors who participated in the first phase, stated
that it was a valuable experience for them and that they got the
opportunity to get experience and knowledge with regard to participating
in international motor racing competitions.
The Asian Motor Racing Club pointed out that the main reason for
organizing this championship, is to provide an opportunity to Sri Lankan
racing Drivers to get international exposure and to improve their
skills.
The Asian Motor Racing Club is now making arrangements to hold the
second phase of the A.M.R.C. Formula L.G.B. championship on the 15th of
July 2007.
Sri Lankan competitors who wish to participate in the second phase,
are invited to apply once again to Asian Motor Racing Club, No. 284,
