TRINCOMALEE: The Security Forces yesterday detained a truck laden with over 1,000 Kg of explosives, similar to the explosives-laden lorry detected at the Kotawehera Police checkpoint in Nikaweratiya on June 1, security sources said yesterday.

According to the sources, the freezer truck laden with over 1,000 Kg of explosives was detected at the fishing village of Padichchiya in the Trincomalee town.

Security officials had been tracking the vehicle for a few weeks.

The authorities took steps to defuse the explosives-laden truck immediately after it was detected.

Earlier, Police detect the lorry laden with 1025 Kg of C4 explosives in Kotawehera which would have been used by the LTTE to create a major calamity in Colombo if it cleared the checkpoints.

Police, on a tip off by a civilian detected another claymore mine which had been transported from Kilinochchi to Colombo hidden inside the patrol tank of the double cab of a Government official.
