Awareness programme for SLFP women members

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Women’s Organisation will conduct a series of seminars next month to educate young women on the policies and massive development programmes carried out by the Party, Youth Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said yesterday.

“We have already appointed district coordinators to streamline this programme,” Wanniarachchi said yesterday addressing the weekly SLFP press briefing.

“SLFP has a strong mandate. Today the majority has accepted the SLFP’s policies and it is the only political party which has been in power for a long period due to public confidence,” she added.

“We expect to educate women regarding the policies and massive development programmes of the SLFP,” she said.

The Government’s attempt to establish the freedom of living by providing economic reliefs will be revealed at these seminars.

The Minister said an Adhishtana Pooja with the participation of thousands of women will be organised at the Kirivehara in Tissamaharama to mark the second anniversary of President in office to invoke blessing on the President, Three-Forces and Police and the masses.

The Women’s Organisation will form a strong foundation to maintain a strong network islandwide. “We also expect to conduct the official election of Women Organisation by reorganising and registering women’s units in each electorate,” the Minister added.

She said former Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Suriyaarachchi have personal and malicious grudges and they won’t take any decision for the country’s betterment.

Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage alleged that Samaraweera was responsible for taking the SLFP into an extremist policy from its middle path by signing an agreement with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

“It is Samaraweera who is following extremist policies despite talking about a middle path,” Aluthgamage said.
