President felicitates alert policemen
Officers who intercepted explosives laden lorry get
promotions, cash rewards:

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa felicitated Police officers who
intercepted the lorry laden with high-powered explosives at the Palugas
Handiya Police checkpoint, Presidential Media sources said.
President Rajapaksa felicitated the five Police officers who were
responsible for the interception and arrest of the lorry on the
Kurunegala-Puttalam road, at the Palugashandiya permanent Police
checkpoint on June 1. They were given promotions and cash rewards by the
President at Temple Trees yesterday.
Police Sergeant D.H.M. Premathilaka (43187) was promoted to the rank
of Sub-Inspector and given a cash reward of Rs. 1 million.
Police Constable Senanayaka Herath (55079) was promoted to the rank
of Sergeant and given Rs. three lakhs, while Susantha Ranjith (SA 2390)
and A.M.W. Adhikari (SA 2855) who served as Police Security Assistants
were given Rs. 1 lakh each.
The Officer-in-Charge of Kotawehera Police Station Inspector D.C.
Kobbawela who conducted the investigations, received 3 lakhs.
President?s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Additional Secretary Gamini
Senarath, IGP Victor Perera, Senior DIG of the Police Headquarters
Sirisena Herath, DIG of Wayamba Pujith Jayasundera and Senior
Superintendant of Police in Charge of the Prevention of Crime and
Corruption Division Anura Senanayake also participated.
