Honourary Doctorate for Tissa Abeysekara

COLOMBO: The University of Colombo conferred an Honourary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) on filmmaker and writer Tissa Abeysekara at its convocation held yesterday at the BMICH. He is only the second film personality to be honoured by the University, after Dr. Lester James Peries.

Abeysekara, incidentally, wrote the script for a number of films directed by Dr. Peries including the critically acclaimed Nidhanaya. He has directed several award-winning films including Maha Gedara and Viragaya and written books on a variety of subjects.
