Tiger threats minimised in Jaffna

PALALY: Day-to-day life in the Jaffna peninsula has now returned to
normality with Security Forces taking full control of the Jaffna
population flushing out Tiger threats, Jaffna Security Forces Commander
Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said yesterday.
“There is no room for the LTTE to disrupt the day-to-day life of the
civilian population in Jaffna,” Major General G.A. Chandrasiri told a
visiting media team from Colombo at the Security Forces Headquarters in
Palaly.
He said the Security Forces are in full control of the areas upto
Nagarkovil, Kilaly Forward Defence Line.
Major General Chandrasiri said a curfew is effective from 6 p.m. to 5
a.m daily in the Jaffna peninsula due to a request from the public as
they fear terror activities during the night.
Transport facilities to and from Jaffna has also been improved with
the commencement of four civilian flights daily.
Civilians awaiting at the Palaly airport to fly to Colombo told the
Daily News that they were happy about the transport arrangements with
the commencement of four civilian flights daily.
“We are happy that we can arrive in Colombo easily using the civilian
flights,” a civilian who declined to be identified told the Daily News.
A cross section of students interviewed by the Daily News expressed
their satisfaction on the way their schools here operate peacefully
despite several shortcomings with regard to textbooks and other
facilities. |
