‘Muslims will never forgive UNP’

COLOMBO: Presidential advisor and Muslim National Alliance (MNA) Secretary General Nazeer Ahamed said opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was shedding crocodile tears over the alleged abductions of Muslims.

He said that it was a laughing matter for Muslims to see Ranil Wickremesinghe championing the cause of Muslims when in the past he had paid scant regard for Muslims when the UNP was reigning supreme. ‘For this the Muslims will never forgive the UNP’.

Nazeer Ahamed was addressing a party youth gathering at the MNA headquarters in Colombo.

‘The Muslims living in the north-east know the apathy of the UNP and especially of Wickremesinghe’ pointed out the presidential advisor ‘neither Wickremesinghe nor his party did anything to save Muslims when they were being persecuted by the LTTE.’

He added that both party and its present leader looked the other way when the Muslims were crying for help. ‘Why this sudden change of heart now?’ queried Nazeer Ahamed.

He went on to say the Muslims recall with horror the stories of their oppression in the north when the LTTE asked them to leave the homes they had lived in for generations.

The presidential advisor reminded the gathering of the reign of terror under the UNP.

‘We shall never forget the Katankudy massacre or the Eravur massacre of Muslims under the UNP regime.’
