Bangladesh donates water purification plants
COLOMBO: Bangladesh has promised assistance to resolve the
drinking water problem in Gampola and Kandy by donating 10 water
purification plants to the Government.
The first two purification plants under this aid scheme were handed
over to Plantation Industries Minister D. M. Jayaratne by Bangladesh
High Commissioner Shadat Hussein at the Bangladesh High Commission
recently.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the High Commissioner said
each of these plants is valued at Rs. 500,000.
The plants can be utilised to purify water obtained from a river or
any other natural water sources. These plants manufactured to suit water
needs of Bangladesh are very effective in disinfecting polluted water.
The High Commissioner also promised to donate sacred Buddha relics
from his country to be placed at the Ambuluwawa complex.
Plantation Industries Minister D. M. Jayaratne recalling age old ties
between the two countries thanked Bangladesh for the humanitarian gift.
The two purification plants would be utilised for the benefit of
residents in Gampola and Kandy faced with drinking water problems.
Plantation Industries Ministry Secretary J. Abeywickrema was also
