Bangladesh recall Razzak and Rahim For Sri Lanka Tests
CRICKET: Bangladesh’s cricket selectors on Monday recalled
left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak and teenage wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim
for an upcoming three-Test series in Sri Lanka.
Razzak, who played his only Test against Australia in 2006, returned
to the squad after his impressive performances in one-day cricket, chief
selector Faruq Ahmed said.
“Razzak had a very good World Cup. He is ninth in the one-day
rankings. So naturally, we thought he should be given chances in the
longer version of the game,” he said.
Razzak, 24, replaced out-of-form spinner Enamul Haque.
Rahim, 18, was also named in the squad which will leave for Sri Lanka
on June 17 for the Test and one-day series. He was in place of
middle-order batsman Tushar Imran.
“We selected Rahim because of his all-round abilities. He is a
stand-by wicket-keeper and a good middle-order batsman. He has already
played two Tests as a batsman,” said Ahmed.
The opening Test begins in Colombo on June 25.
The selectors also included Habibul Bashar, who lost his Test
captaincy to Mohammad Ashraful on Saturday.
Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Tushar Imran, Farhad Reza and all-rounder
Mahmudullah Riad found a place in the one-day squad.
Bangladesh Test squad: Mohammad Ashraful (capt), Mashrafe Mortaza,
Habibul Bashar, Javed Omar, Shahriar Nafees, Saqibul Hasan, Rajin Saleh,
Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Shahadat Hossain, Syed Rasel, Mehrab
Hossain, Mohammad Sharif, Abdur Razzak, Mushfiqur Rahim.
