An encomium for Prof. Samaranayake
LAUNCH: A commemorative volume based on academy articles and
memoirs of Prof. V.K. Samaranayake, retired Senior Professor of computer
science was launched recently.
After serving the university system for 43 years, Prof. V.K.
Samaranayake retired from his post as Senior Professor of Computer
Science, University of Colombo and from the university service in
September 2004. Shortly before that, on his 65th Birthday on 22nd May
2004, he retired from the Post of Director, University of Colombo School
of Computing (UCSC).
In recognition of the services rendered by him as a researcher,
teacher, writer, advisor and consultant in the realm of Information
Technology and a host of other disciplines in the University of Colombo
and the country at large, earning him the title “Father of IT in Sri
Lanka”, a felicitation ceremony was organised by the Staff of the UCSC,
the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo and the IT Industry
in December 2004.
This felicitation volume is a follow up which is meant to serve as a
token of our immense gratitude for his wide ranging contribution.
We are confident that it will help in cherishing and preserving that
part of our national memory which has enriched the IT landscape of the
country.
This commemorative volume is based on academic articles and memoirs
by over 40 professional colleagues of Prof V.K. Samaranayake whom he
considers partners in progress.
