Sri Lanka Telecom incorporates with SLT Hong Kong

A considerable step forward in global expansion:

INCORPORATION: Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), number one communications service provider in Sri Lanka, announced inauguration of services of its subsidiary SLT Hong Kong Limited.

Ceremony was well attended by senior management of key global telecom operators including the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) and InvestHK. Addressing the gathering Chairman of SLT and SLT Hong Kong Asoka Weerasinghe de Silva, said it was a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s communication history”.

He further noted it was “equality important to Hong Kong region as far as access to Indian sub continent is concerned.” With an ambitious plan to become a global IP solution provider, SLT has already got the blueprint in global business expansion by expanding current network to USA, China and East Asia.

Hong Kong is the major gateway to connect Mainland China with rest of the world and therefore, SLT Hong Kong is the premier point for SLT to expand its business to the booming China market.

Also, SLT is fully geared to establish more global POPs and overseas subsidiaries to serve the global market needs. The next POPs will be opened in USA in Q4 2007, Singapore in Q2 2008, as well as United Kingdom in Q4 2008.

Chief Executive Officer of SLT, Shoji Takahashi, in his speech remarked “By incorporating SLT Hong Kong, the company becomes a telecom facilitator in the Asia region.

This is a giant step forward by the company in venturing into global operation. Having such a vital point of presence in the major telecommunications hub in South East Asia, we are proud to connect the rest of the world through our wholly owned SMW3 and SMW4 undersea optical fiber cable systems and partnership with reliable global players such as NTT Com Asia, PCCW and IDT.”
