RUGBY: Defending Caltex League Champions Kandy Sports Club ran
up another cricket score in scoring their third successive victory this
time defeating Sri Lanka Air Force by the huge margin of 82 points (6
goals, 8 tires) to 3 (1 drop goal) in their Caltex League rugby
tournament match played at Nittawala yesterday. At half time Kandy were
up leading 53-3.
Much was expected from Sri Lanka Air Force after their fine
performance against the strong CR and FC but their defence looked very
brittle and allowed the Kandy team to punch holes in their defence.
Airmen were also guilty of not tackling and the Kandy team took
advantage to score tries.
Kandy's number eight Dushantha Lewke once again had a great game
displaying a lot of aggressiveness and ended up scoring two fine tries.
Kandy's new winger Old Kingswoodian Mohammed Jabber too had a great
game scoring three tries displaying plenty of speed. Winger Sanjeewa
Jayasinghe once again excelled scoring two tries .
Centre Sameera Silva and stand off Fazll Marija chipped in with two
tries each. The other try scores were full back Nalaka Weerakoddy (1)
centre Pradeep Liyanage (1) and flanker Imran Bishamin (1). Full back
Nalaka Weerakoddy goalled four tries while his brother Erande Weerakoddy
added the extra paints to two tries. For the Airmen fly half Nalin
Sirisena executed the drop goal.
Aruna Ranakothge referred.
