LTTE suffers heavily in Army retaliatory attack

VAVUNIYA: The Army successfully repulsed and counter attacked inflicting heavy casualties on the LTTE when the terrorists launched an artillery and mortar fire attack at the troops.

The LTTE was engaged in operations ahead of the FDL, Vavuniya on Saturday (June 2) around 9.00 p.m. and continued the attack till Sunday (June 3) morning involving Child soldiers, the Media Centre for National Security said.

According to the Media Centre in the retaliatory attack, 52 terrorists were killed and a large number wounded. The terrorists who fled in the face of the Army retaliatory attack had abandoned a haul of arms and ammunition.

Ten soldiers had made the supreme sacrifice and 20 were injured. Currently, the Army is conducting operations in the areas ahead of the FDL, the Media Centre added.
