$ 100 m investment for Tulhiriya industrial zone
VISIT: Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment
Promotion Dr. Sarath Amunugama has visited Thulhiriya Industrial Zone
recently. MAS Holdings, the world class apparel exporter in Sri Lanka
intends to set up the first Apparel and Fabric Park in the island at the
more than 150- acre industrial site at Thulhiriya.
The Government of Sri Lanka entered in to an agreement with MAS last
year to purchase the former Kabool Lanka site and the government handed
over the site to MAS.
MAS has developed the Thulhiriya Industrial Zone as "MAS Fabric Park"
and expects to attract investment in excess of $ 100 million, namely in
knit fabric manufacture, fabric printing, embroidery and washing and
drying to be a world class competitor in South Asia.
MAS will generate 3,000 jobs over the next three years through
projects in Thulhiriya . "DOGIFA" the first of such projects to
manufacture wrap knit fabric, investing $ 30 million, joint venture
between "Dogi" of Spain and "EFA" of USA (Elastic Fabric of America) and
MAS Holdings.
Dulindra Fernando, CEO, MAS Fabric Park gave a presentation about
their projects to brief the Minister and he also spoke of some of their
difficulties with the Minister. During this visit on behalf the
government, Dr. Amunugama pledged to assist them to achieve their
targets in Sri Lanka. |
