O mother of mine

Just three months old was then I,
When you, perhaps, unwillingly heeded the call.
You had no choice or to question why
But to leave in haste with a heavy sigh.
Knowing well the onslaughts that lay ahead
And yet not being able for it to take.

You were the icon of what is love,
Your life a solid edifice that none could match.
Ravishing beauty like a goddess from above
Yet standing tall betwixed God and Man.

Dearest mother, memories of you, though unseen,
Come oft to my estranged mind.
When troubles beset me
And for answers I cannot find.

Look therefore lovingly upon me and mine,
From wherever you now peacefully rest;
To protect, guide and keep us,
Within your maternal trust and care.

O mother! my mother!
How much do I sigh for thee.

A precious angel was born

A day dawned
A mother was blessed
An angel, a precious daughter was born

The month of the precious tourmaline
Numerically eight
The day of a cricket score
Numerically six
A year that is so precious to this mum and this dad
An angel was born
An angel of love, peace, happiness so divine

An angel so precious
So precious to the world
So precious to life
So precious to me

The womb of this mother, was blessed by the lord
The life of this father, was blessed by the lord
The happiness she brought is the gift of the lord
She is the angel of the lord

Her name so precious was blessed with an N
Her name so special was graced with an S
She is my precious angel
She is my darling NS

Precious is the day I found you
My angel you know I love you
You are the one forever
Darling it's you

You are my love forever
My love and my dream forever
My life shall hurt you never
Darling it's you

Thank god for life you give me
Happiness and joy you bring me
Angel it's you
Angel you are my life forever
Darling angel it's you
The love of the lord, is an eternal and ever lasting love

Stardust

Reaching towards the inky black sky
In a season of drought and famine
Arms held high for a moment of triumph
Hoping the impossible would be.

Sinking back down towards the ground
Once more his rough hands in the earth
No cooling mud, but parched and burning sand
His arms did sting and hurt

Gazing no more into the impassive darkness
He did search the soil below
His fingers soon did reach their destination
Dust of the stars he sought before.

Peace on earth

True, tranquillity disappeared from view
Distress, displacement and disaster came into view
War not ceased, truth victimised
And peace withered which to be energised

Want a world that is tranquil and calm
Where all people live happily, no harm
But, minds of men created war, that's not worth
Yet the minds could bring peace on earth

Frauds, injustice, violence and corruption
Darken the society
with their creation
Honesty, courtesy, loyalty and integrity
Brighten the humanity with pleasure, it's the reality

Peace blooms in the garden of love
Good-will, affection and amity strengthen love
On earth, not a single soul lived permanently
With this truth, live peacefully and happily

A question

Is it such a shocking event?
If a woman strolls alone on a moonlit night
With the waves lapping at her feet.
Walks with the first streak of dawn
Across cliffs and rocks on the beach.
Travels alone to lands across the seas,
Before twilight years set in.
Dines at a cosy cafe by herself
When weary of seeing to other's whims.

The index finger pointing to the head
And with a smile
The words escape
"A schizophrenic?"

The baby's little ways

He is only one year plus,
just gave up crawling and began to walk.
Yet he knows what he wants and
how to get it with gestures
and his 'Uugh, uugh' language
When he is hungry or thirsty
he will point at the food container or water
And say 'uugh, uugh'.

He cannot talk any words yet,
but he has taken over the control
of his parents and the household.
If he wants to be taken in arms
he will raise his hands and say 'uugh, uugh'
Once in command he will
direct his carrier to where he wants.

He loves to take a ride on the cycle
sitting on the frame looking around.
When he wants a ride, he will bring a cushion,
carry it to the cycle and say 'uugh, uugh'.
He likes his neighbours and acquaintances
and treats them with a charming smile.

If others fail to do what he wants,
he will thump his feet on the floor and cry
and show his anger until the other party
falls in line with his way of thinking.
It is no wonder that parents consider
the babies are godgiven gifts.

On and on the wave

A stray contact of a wire
Brings in surrounding darkness.
A leaking pipe doth cause
Delay in reaching office.
The hurry and flurry - the haste and waste
No time! No Time! to think.
Morn to eve - and eve to morn
Enslaved to relentless routine,
Dull monotony.
So flows the struggle
On and on - the wave !

Nuance of shade

Under the shade of branches
Closely entwined in sporadic light
Small yellow green leaves
Filling some of sky seen space
Thick branches of this unknown tree
With ruff brown fungus grown bark
Red beauty of many flowers
Scattered throughout its span
They float down one by one
Butterflies cannot reach its height
Nor the minute honey birds
Leaves prevent the slight dribble
Shed from an overflowing sky
Standing on earth clutched roots
In an iron grip to the wet earth
Where for many times leaves fall
A temporary shelter for the traveller
In a fit of anger lightning flash
A silver thread zig zag the sky
The pale sun smotherd by clouds
Peer out furtively emanates light
Weak yellow rays filter through
Passing a heavenly abyss
From the bottomless space, the air
Vapour so kind creates the bow
A vivid colourful strip of light
Beneath the large unknown tree
Glimpses of the rainbow strikes
A fair blowing keep skins covered
Bringing a fresh renewed feeling
Clearing pollutants all around
While the unknown gives its shade

2007 world cup heroes

Be not disheartened, our dear heroes,
You're indeed world beaters,
Since tiny Sri Lanka beat mighty countries,
You needn't be depressed.
Think of your major victory,
To be in the Grand Final,
Where other great teams failed.
Hail the heroic deeds of
Our master blasters Sanath,
Spin Wizard Murali, Vass,
Mahela, Lasith and the rest,
Thoroughtout the tournament.
With their fighting qualities.
Be comforted my dear fellow country men,
Because we were defeated - more by rain,
Bad light and the toss than by Australians.
Hence, let's praise our valiant cricketers,
Who are really world beaters,
Sure to win the next World Cup.
