Badminton finals today

36th junior national badminton championships

BADMINTON: The semifinal line up of all age categories were completed on the penultimate day of the 36th junior national badminton championships continued at the SLBA indoor stadium, Royal Sports Complex and S. Thomas’ College indoor stadium in Mount Lavinia.

In the boys under 19 tournament semifinals Eranga Fernando of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala defeated K. D. K. Jayawardena of Dharmaraja College Kandy in a three setter 21-15, 19-21, 21-8 and Udaya Nayanajith of Anuradhapura Central beat Nayanakantha Wijesekera of Ananda College in straight sets 24-22, 21-18.

In the girls under 19 singles tournament semifinals Ruwani Chaturika (Lindsay BMV) defeated Erani Weliwitage (Holy Cross Gampaha) 22-20, 21-3 and I. Piyushani also from Lindsay BMV had the better of her teammate Ishara Udayangani 21-15, 21-16.

The tournament is sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom and all finals are scheduled for today at the Royal Sports Complex courts, Independence Avenue commencing at 3.00 p.m.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom Asoka Weerasinghe de Silva will be the chief guest.
