Self-determination not endorsed by Britain - FM

COLOMBO: Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama referring to The Island’s page one report yesterday headlined ‘Tamil’s right to self-determination echoed-Meeting attended by Britain’s next PM Gordon Brown,’ said the British Government has not recognised the right for self-determination nor has the British Prime Ministerial Labour Party nominee Gordon Brown endorsed the idea.

He said Brown’s presence at the British Tamil Forum meeting had been a brief five minutes and it does not reflect upon any change of stance by the British Government on the Sri Lankan issue.

The story has been ‘twisted’ giving ‘unnecessary hype’ to a trivial incident, Bogollagama said at a media briefing yesterday.
